I had literally no idea about the Wanikani level tags. I was so worried about what was going to happen when I ran out of hiragana and katakana words and then it worked out like this.
Currently the goo search for kana words fail for every word. I stopped reporting them individually after the first two. Was it something related to what you did here?
Yes, the url change is the cause. To be more specific the Kana cards lack the required field.
I’m currently exploring a couple of options to fix this en masse. But this may take some time.
Until then I recommend continuing to send feedback and I will fix them individually.
genuine question here; in the 10k deck, より’s definition is given as “more” or “further”, and although it doesn’t seem to be wrong from what I can tell, every other place where I’ve been taught about より it’s been used as the opposite; as in “something __より、__のほうが__” , where the より is attached to the word that is less of something. I was going to suggest a change to add an additional meaning but then I realized I’m not even sure what I would put. I know for some words there’s a little bit added explaining them. Should I just not worry about it?
@hinekidori I am on mobile right now so I can’t propose changes, but both 打つ and 当たる have the same definitions so there needs to be something to distinguish them for the EN -> JP cards
So I have just finished every katakana/hiragana only word in the deck and have now moved on to kanji words, where I am noticing now for the first time that subtitles seem to only show up for definitions, not for readings. in the case of 月日 (つきひ)and 月日(がっぴ)there is no way for me to differentiate them when it asks for their readings.
Should I just hibernate them? Or is it more likely that I’ll run into something like this again than I think?
edit: i just hibernated one of them. someone let me know if anything changes because I feel bad hibernating a card like this.
When I stumble across a word I cannot distinguish, I try to come up with a hint that can help me (and hopefully others). Then I enter it as a “proposed change”.
You can do that directly in your study session by clicking on the menu in the lower left corner.
Or in the deck by selecting the item.
I’m aware of the feature, but at the very least at the time of my writing the subtitles would only show up when it asked for definitions, not readings, and there wasn’t a feature in the proposed changes to let me fix that. From the looks of it now it’s fixed, though.
Probably @hinekidori fixed it after your comment.
There are two separate subtitle fields. One (Subtitle) will show up when asked for meaning. The other (Subtitle Recall) will show up when asked for the reading.
@hinekidori I also mix up those two when trying to suggest a change. I always need to check the preview cards first to make sure I use the field I want. Would it help to rename the fields according to what they help with? Something like “Meaning hint”, “Reading hint”, “Audio hint”.
Has @hinekidori stopped updating the deck? None of my suggestions in the past month have been made, despite some cards being impossible to distinguish in audio -> EN and EN -> JP cards (eg: 変わる and 代わる or 打つ and 当たる, respectively)
Oh I’ve noticed some fixes recently, so I guess they are back!
Hi!
My time is limited these days. To ensure a quick application to any feedback requests I would recommend using the available fields for your suggestions.
Anything placed in the Comments that require further research will take longer to implement.
Oh I just saw this now. I’ll try to put the subtitles in the suggestions from now on.
@hinekidori I accidentally made one asking to delete a duplicate card, but then I realized that I was in the review section rather than the lesson section. Please ignore that one.
I’m looking for a deck that has all N5/N4 vocab and tests you on audio as well as written. Have N level tags been setup for this deck? Ideally I’d like to sort and only to N4/N5 vocab to start.
I originally joined as a beta tester way back when, but fell off due to focusing on WaniKani only (it was more than enough for me =P )
Now that reviews are trinkling down I could finally justify buying the Lifetime and start using Kitsun properly.
I grabbed a number of decks, tried a few of them out, and quickly found I absolutely LOVE this deck!
Ended up deleting most of the other decks and only focus on this one and Japanese From Zero (since I am working on those books)
I haven’t removed any cards, as my oldest WK burns are old enough to benefit from a repeat.
Any known word will take only a few seconds to answer, so I don’t mind it. As a nice soft start I have mostly gotten words I know, but noticed I did not have them perfected (mixed reading for 4 things and 8 things, as they are similar, a few repeats helped me iron that out)
Noticed the 10k deck is nearly 20k items! Is this cause of the sentences and such? (I absolutely LOVE those! Trying to figure them out before flipping the first time, greatly helps my lacking listening practice)
How fast do people go through this deck? It is so big, so have to do a good number of items a day to get through it without taking many years!
I’ve started off with 15 a day for now, might go up later (I know how fast they pile up when later reviews comes back, so starting off conservative as I know it accumulates). That would still be 3.5 years! But I’m in no rush. WK took 5 years ^^;
I just wanted to say thank you. This deck is amazing, I love it!
Glad you like it!
Yes, the Sentences run independantly from the vocab so are counted separately.
I think it is pretty common to not finish the deck actually. Since once you get deep into it you are probably transitioning to a deck built on personal material.
However, maybe @jprspereira or @FlamySerpent could give you an idea. As far as I’m aware they are the deepest into the deck on Kitsun.
I’m a completionist, I will try
I’ll just make sure to pace myself
I binged into the vocabulary cards back then, with around 20-30 lessons a day. Nowadays I’m just doing the sentence cards, 6 a day. @Toyger
It’s definitely possible to finish the deck, but there’s no point in fully finishing it all at a crazy speed. I’d rather read more, and SRS new words I get from reading (lots of them are on core 10k btw). Then, I’d just push them to lessons and that’s it If you feel like you’re lacking a lot of vocab, going harder on the first thousands of cards is a good idea, but then you should slow down to focus on practicing other stuff like reading, listening, speaking, writing, whatever is your thing.
My vocabs are spotty at best =P
I find even these earlier items have some I don’t know, others I just love getting used to hearing in the context sentences along with them. (also helps with my even more spotty grammar XD ) The ones I know takes no more than seconds to do, so all in all combined with all reviews till burn shouldn’t be more than a minute or two, so still worth it.
I’m doing 15 a day for now, which so far is barely noticeable. (still doing WK, but it too is down to just minutes a day, when it used to be hours)
I’ll see how far I go, but I am a bit of a completionist and love to do things systematic, so might find it hard to bump things and skip others =P
My main focus will be to not do too many, pushing myself to a burnout. Slow down when needed, skip days where busy or simply not feeling it. I’m prepared for it to be a slow process and take years, while also doing other stuff like Bunpro and reading.
