Random Deck Ideas!

It is much easier to have ideas than to actually implement them, so this is the thread to post your deck ideas and hope someone will show up and make the deck … eventually.

Idea: Music Listening Practice

I will start with my idea so that I can remember it later. I once saw a report from an elementary school (I forgot where), and in music education they spent a lot of time listening to pitches and intervals. In the end they were very good at playing by ear, like the teacher was playing something and everyone was able to repeat it, it was quite incredible.

So, my idea is a deck where you hear the audio of a piano playing a note or interval, and you click on piano key(s) [fret diagram, …] to select the notes as the answer. Just writing G3 or quint (?) or something just doesn’t have the same learning effect.

I also have been thinking of some sort of music practice deck. Specifically for music reading and working with the Circle of 5ths. I put together my own Circle of 5ths diagram to start the process, but was hitting roadblocks with my limited coding knowledge.

I’m going to take another look at it with your success with SVG files. It’s not something I had considered when I was originally trying this.

Yes, it looks like images can help there.

Thinking about it, using fields inside the SVG is very powerful as well. You can set variable text inside the image, or do a rotation based on an angle in a field, or give x/y coordinates to move elements around, …

Exactly what I’m hoping to achieve. I have a lot of learning to do, but would love to make it.

A deck to teach pitch accent in Japanese.

Is that like a vocab deck with additional information?

Maybe you would be interested in NHK 日本語発音アクセント新辞典 (NHK Japanese Pronunciation Dictionary), in my dictionary iOS app from Monokakido (aptly named “Dictionaries”, not sure if you can get it outside of Japan) there was a new release of this recently, with 100k words recorded by NHK announcers.

My dream is that someday Kitsun licenses stuff like this and lets you create flashcards with shiny content, not just jmdict.

I’d like to get/make a:

  1. comprehensive food picture deck that has regional details. There are decks in circulation but haven’t researched much.
  2. dialect/idiom deck. Have one book I want to do
  3. medical terminology and anatomy
  4. politics/lawyers/detective/science, these type of dramas slay me. Probably a great subs2kitsun project some day.

Just had an idea… a deck for manga titles! One side of the card is the manga cover, and you have to add the reading of the title and the translation!

I’d like a deck that teaches me how to read sheet music, including all the dynamics. SRS would be so great for that.

Some really nice ideas in here so far

I think having beginner manga decks would be cool for a lot of people, like yotsubato or something ^^

I’ve been thinking about ways to promote deck creation, and one of the things I currently have in mind is to hold Monthly or Quarterly contests where the creator of the best new deck would win a prize (like yearly sub or lifetime).

Indeed, with Yotsuba so often recommended as a first manga (it was my first!) and with the Yotsuba reading club still going strong over at WK, and with all the cool Yotsuba reading videos, it would be really, really great to have some Yotsuba decks here on Kitsun!

When creating a manga deck, what is most looked for? Would that be focused on just vocabulary in the manga? Or also have sentences or grammar break downs of the some of the concepts used in the book?I’d love to help out and create one of these, because it would sure help me; however, I’m not sure exactly the best format for that kind of a deck.

I think it would mainly be vocabulary focused, with anything else being a very nice extra

Loving the enthusiasm!

Cool, so I want to make a 聲の形 a deck then. I love the movie and have been chewing through the books. (slowly, but making a deck will help me chew faster). Any interest in that?

Also, anyone have tricks for getting the ime to choose 聲 ? I scrolled through a ton of kanji and never found it

That would be amazing! The books are on my shelf, but I’m always too busy to really get on with them. A deck would be fantastic!

One day, I’m definitely going to make a deck for Kitsun. I’ve not even made one here for myself yet (I only use the wonderful 10K JP vocab at the moment), but I think this is now a goal of mine - to make a deck. It won’t be any time soon (I’m busy reading a book that is taking up all my time at the moment and isn’t scheduled to finish until July), but one day… definitely!
