[Discussion & Feedback] So Much Vocab! (Kitsun 10k Edition)

This saved me on the N2, 打ち合わせ (or 打ち合わせる?) was on the test this winter and I wouldn’t have known the definition without this deck. 感謝

There seems to be a duplicate of 紅葉

It’s easy enough to just add the synonyms and move on but I figured I’d drop a post here about it.

Merry Christmas!

Is there any way to set “known” based on Kanji field in the 10k sentence cards?

I used the “WaniKani Known Kanji & Vocab Filter” to set vocab words up through my current WK level as “known” and that worked to set the cards as “known” for the 10k vocab cards.

I then went through and manually set a bunch of (mostly kana) words as “known” from the 10k vocabulary cards and added them to my “known words” list and confirmed they show up there, for example:

But then when I checked the sentence cards, cards with those same terms were still not marked as “known”:

If possible, I would really love to not have to mark all these same terms as known again for sentence cards.

I do really like the sentence cards, but not for words I already know 100% which are the ones I am trying to filter out.

I took a quick look, and it’s because the main field for the Sentence Template has not been set. This is something @hinekidori would have to select and then publish an update for.

After the main field has been set, it should act the same way as the vocabulary cards, showing you which ones you already know :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I just love this deck. Doubt it could get much better, possibly by expanding and getting even bigger. I want all the words.

Is that what this crown means in Templates and this will be the ‘known’ content tracker? Holy cow, that is very helpful!
Edit: it works!

I changed the main field to Focus for both templates. Hope that helps :+1:

Just now saw this, and was wondering what’s the difference between Focus and Kanji fields? I thought that Focus was for finding vocab that’s taught in kana on 10k, but has kanji in Focus  I just found around 200 vocab that I have now not marked as known, because of the kanji in the Focus field xD Is that intentional?

The Focus field was originally a redundancy for organizing the cards. I had it in my head that it was a better representation of what the card was attempting to teach. It may have lost it’s original purpose at this point with all the feedback the deck has received. I will change the main field back to Kanji.

It does still have a purpose of finding words that are usually kana but have a kanji form in the Focus field, so it has bee helpful to me at least!

Thanks!

In certain circumstances, ga has a very nasally sound in Japanese. I have asked my wife and she just says its “ga” like she doesn’t hear the difference. It’s absolutely there though.

Does anybody know how many unique kanji are in this deck?

Plenty of cards that drops verbs translation “to”. Fixed like 8 of them, or rather proposed changes. angry whining noises

I’m about half way through the deck and damn the amount of inconcistency is killing me. Some verbs use “to” and others don’t, alot of words that sound similar and have similar meanings have different answers, even though I found the same explaination in jisho.

One is: 乗り越す = miss one’s station

That one is wrong not only on one level but several.

乗り越し = riding past one’s stop

Is it riding past or missing? Is it station or stop? Not to mention when mixing up the translations you get it wrong, even though the words is really similar. Found myself needing to change every other card that I run across. Stroke inducing.

Hiya! I understand you being annoyed with so many words having not so good meanings, but this deck is still work in progress, as in, because of people’s suggestions it’s getting much much better than other 10k decks out in the wild. Whenever I do lessons I send suggestions for basically all of the cards I learn. Some of the meanings are a bit wrong, some just don’t have all of the main meanings, some need subtitles to distinguish between all of the other similar words (be that audio and same pitch accent words, or ENG to JP, etc.)

I usually check jisho’s meanings and try to use those words, while checking the monolingual dictionary goo, which also sometimes has English meanings that I might add if I find jisho’s explanations lacking. You are free to send as many suggestions as you want, I feel like all of us using this deck would only benefit from your contribuitions, so thank you.

It does take time though, I admit it, but this deck was much worse, lets say, 3 years ago. I also was too shy to send suggestions back then, so a lot of words from the beginning are missing “to” and so on, so I appreciate people fixing those ones.
