[Discussion & Feedback] So Much Vocab! (Kitsun 10k Edition)

Would be great if it was possible to have multiple owners for this deck to review suggestions. I’m only 10% through but I’ve come across so many cards where the verb isn’t in the correct dictionary form for English (includes a to). For example kiru -> “cut” instead of “to cut”.

Deck owner has a life and can be on vacation or whatever, so there’s no guarantee they’ll review the suggestion and make it soon, so I have to keep remembering for several cards: oh this is a bad card, it’s “to X”, but I’ll get it wrong if I don’t put “X”, which is not great for studying.

In general, it would be great if this deck was audited for correct verb form rather than my having to make suggestions when coming across them. It feels like 1/3-1/2 of verbs are missing the “to”

Just wanted to mention that you can add personal synonyms while you wait for the feedback to be reviewed. (Floating pencil button on the backside of the cards during lessons/reviews)

This at least would make it so it does not mark the card as incorrect for you :grinning:

Sorry for the delay. Blur should be working on the cards again. :slightly_smiling_face:

I just wanted to thank you for the quick acceptance of the proposed changes every time.

I missed this somehow. Sorry about that. Your suggested url caused the search to fail. I did however take your recommendation to change the search to the kana version.

Let me know if that’s an improvement :slightly_smiling_face:

@hinekidori Can you please add the Core 10k WK Breakdown Deck (Core 10k sorted by WaniKani Level) with the WaniKani vocabulary filtered out and kana vocabulary included throughout?

I would recommend using the card management page to filter the 10k deck using the tags provided for WK and Level.

Though I see the advantage to providing the deck already preset to this, it would be redundant in the end and cause extra moderation that I don’t have time for.

@hinekidori Thanks for the recommendation. I appreciate all that you do for the community.

I had literally no idea about the Wanikani level tags. I was so worried about what was going to happen when I ran out of hiragana and katakana words and then it worked out like this.

Currently the goo search for kana words fail for every word. I stopped reporting them individually after the first two. Was it something related to what you did here?

Yes, the url change is the cause. To be more specific the Kana cards lack the required field.

I’m currently exploring a couple of options to fix this en masse. But this may take some time.

Until then I recommend continuing to send feedback and I will fix them individually.

genuine question here; in the 10k deck, より’s definition is given as “more” or “further”, and although it doesn’t seem to be wrong from what I can tell, every other place where I’ve been taught about より it’s been used as the opposite; as in “something __より、__のほうが__” , where the より is attached to the word that is less of something. I was going to suggest a change to add an additional meaning but then I realized I’m not even sure what I would put. I know for some words there’s a little bit added explaining them. Should I just not worry about it?

@hinekidori I am on mobile right now so I can’t propose changes, but both 打つ and 当たる have the same definitions so there needs to be something to distinguish them for the EN -> JP cards

So I have just finished every katakana/hiragana only word in the deck and have now moved on to kanji words, where I am noticing now for the first time that subtitles seem to only show up for definitions, not for readings. in the case of 月日 (つきひ)and 月日(がっぴ)there is no way for me to differentiate them when it asks for their readings.

Should I just hibernate them? Or is it more likely that I’ll run into something like this again than I think?

edit: i just hibernated one of them. someone let me know if anything changes because I feel bad hibernating a card like this.

When I stumble across a word I cannot distinguish, I try to come up with a hint that can help me (and hopefully others). Then I enter it as a “proposed change”.

You can do that directly in your study session by clicking on the menu in the lower left corner.
Or in the deck by selecting the item.

I’m aware of the feature, but at the very least at the time of my writing the subtitles would only show up when it asked for definitions, not readings, and there wasn’t a feature in the proposed changes to let me fix that. From the looks of it now it’s fixed, though.

Probably @hinekidori fixed it after your comment.

There are two separate subtitle fields. One (Subtitle) will show up when asked for meaning. The other (Subtitle Recall) will show up when asked for the reading.

@hinekidori I also mix up those two when trying to suggest a change. I always need to check the preview cards first to make sure I use the field I want. Would it help to rename the fields according to what they help with? Something like “Meaning hint”, “Reading hint”, “Audio hint”.

Has @hinekidori stopped updating the deck? None of my suggestions in the past month have been made, despite some cards being impossible to distinguish in audio -> EN and EN -> JP cards (eg: 変わる and 代わる or 打つ and 当たる, respectively)

Oh I’ve noticed some fixes recently, so I guess they are back!

@MegaZeroX

Hi!

My time is limited these days. To ensure a quick application to any feedback requests I would recommend using the available fields for your suggestions.

Anything placed in the Comments that require further research will take longer to implement.
