Keep Template and Layout When Creating Cards

Hey,

Sorry if this has already been discussed, I searched the threads and didn’t find anything. But I noticed that when I’m creating cards for my deck, every time I save them, the template and layout I was currently using gets reset. Then I have to select both the template and layout again, which looks to be making a server request each time. I personally would like to see it keep the template and layout options but cleared the input fields instead after saving and creating the next card.

Great work so far though!

Oh I had this problem for a while too xD But this functionality is there. You just need to save it as default. It’s the blue button that says “Make Default Set” on the card creation page

Glad it’s solved ^^

No worries! I’ve had like, 500 “doh” moments with this site so far, haha. Glad to have helped

I’d appreciate it if you could tell me when you encounter such a moment, perhaps I can make it more obvious to users with this information

I think what could help is maybe some hover over text on some things (like the “drag off” which, at least for me, wasn’t intuitive) and images in the guide

The most confusing section for me that I’ve encountered so far has been templates/layouts. Just figuring out the process, saving my own edited version, and using them with a card. (To be fair, I’ve only glanced through the guide, so this might be dumbness on my part, haha.) I think I’ve made like, several copies of things before I managed to edit, save, and use something successfully x’D

I’ll try to keep track where I get stuck in the future though.

Images are definitely coming (along with better formatting) for the guide. I agree that having ‘drag off’ might not be a good indication of what it actually does. I’ll try to think about a better visual for it (maybe an icon indicating drag and drop or something).

Haha I totally get why you would get stuck with the templates/layouts. It’s a bit difficult to wrap your head around at the start, especially if you’re not used to seeing HTML/CSS code.

I would love to create some interactive guide for first time users that explains exactly what layouts/templates are with visuals so it might be a bit more clear.

Keeping track would be great, thanks a bunch!

Also, a GUI with preset building blocks would help a lot. It’s really frustrating to edit/write a layout with the current interface. (At least the first time, I guess one gets used to it)

Glad to hear images are coming  I think that will definitely make a difference.

I’m not new to HTML/CSS, that part was mostly fine for me. The difficult part was wrapping my head around the rest of it. I think the layering aspect of the template (what’s the template?) and then the layout (is that different than the template? Why did I need both? What did they do exactly?) was the confusing part. Again, 100% blame me not going through the guide first. I was too excited to just dive in xD I get how to do things now, just at the start I was like “whaaat?” haha. (I am also very sick…could potentially be another factor :'D)

Though a potential catch-all for over-excited people like me, you could maybe add little question marks next to sections to clarify what things are? It could link directly to the related section in the guide.

Great idea on adding the direct links!

@Naphthalene I’ve toyed around with getting a visual editor in there, but it’s a seriously huge task so I had to put it on hold. Hopefully I can continue working on it relatively soon ^^
