Hi whenever I do these 10k vocab reviews it seems as though whenever I get a card with audio first I have to hit the tab button on the keyboard at least 3 times to get into the box so i can hit R to hear the audio it wants. Seems like a hassle.

Hey! I’m guessing you have to hit tab a few times because it is focused on an input and hitting R would enter R into the input?
If you want to be able to play the audio with a hotkey while focused on an input, you could change the hotkey (user settings page) to one of the F1-F12 keys (I think F2 has no default browser action bound to it in Chrome at least).
Would that help? 
When I’m presented with an audio file, I quickly press Shift+Tab, then R to play the file. After I hear it, I press Tab again to type the answer.
…It’s at least one step quicker than your method!
