I specifically signed up here because I wanted to switch over from the Torii app (which is essentially a Core 10K vocab program) to something that offers the same 10k I have been working on for a long time, but without having to type answers anymore.
What I don’t like about the Wanikani system (from which Torii was derived) vs Anki (which I used in the past) is how cards are burned after a while and you never see them again. I just don’t like this, I’d rather see an old card that I know well every once in a while (even if it’s just yearly I guess) instead of having it disappear forever from the SRS system. Because this means in practice that I have forgotten certain words. I just really don’t like the whole burning mechanic.
I’m reading some conflicting things about how this works over here on Kitsun,
on the one hand there’s some mention of cards becoming ‘‘fire fox’’ and essentially being burned like in wanikani,
but when i look at the official categories of cards I see names like Expert and Master and no real sign of burning cards Wanikani-style, because the last category in Deck Settings (8) has an interval, maybe suggesting even at the last level a card will eventually come back.
Can somebody tell me more from experience?
It’s honestly a dealbreaker for me if the cards disappear from reviews forever like in Wanikani and Torii
