Changing the Current N5 JLPT Template

Hi all, does anyone know how I can change the current N5 JLPT word list based on what I’m more looking for?

Basically I prefer my word list to be in kana (not kanji, but would like kanji on the side) and to show the answer and not have to type. I do use audio though and I have a spare section for notes which I use to include my mnemonics.

This works great as I’m creating a major word list from my learning resource, but I wanted to do the JLPT N5 list at the same time.

The issue is I can’t seem to bulk change the layout of the list? I can do it with my own decks but not this one? I’ve also tried move/copy cards to another deck but I get the error “Failed to convert cards: Could not move cards, parameters are incorrect”.

Is there anyway I’ll be able to use the list? As I’d prefer it over making my own as there’s upwards of 700 words to add and I’m hoping to get audio for each.

Thanks so much.

Hey

In general, it is not possible to customize community decks with personal layouts/adjustments.

You can enable “Always show flip buttons” in the deck settings to force it to become a flip card. The input will still show but not auto focus, and you can use the flip hotkeys/buttons/swiping controls the way you’d usually do for non-input cards.

It should not show that option actually, as that isn’t available for community decks. I’ll put this on my list to doublecheck

I’m afraid that if you insist on having a personal layout you will have to create them yourself, either through imports (from jlpt wordlists/anki decks) or by using the Dictionary tool and searching for the #n5 (note the lowercase) tag. The latter will obviously take more time, but will include the same audio as the deck currently has.

Thank you for your great answer, do you know whether the import list also takes in sound files in some way. Or would they require to be added manually afterwards? Thanks

No problem! You could edit the data in excel before the import to create the same reference to the audio files as the N5 deck has.

If you look at a card of the N5 deck (or any generated card with audio) you will notice that the audio is like this:

[sound:https://data.kitsun.io/kitsun-audio/japanese/見せる-D.mp3]

As long as you change the 見せる part to the vocabulary term of that word, it should work (as long as that audio already exists from someone generating the audio before). So with some excel “magic” you could easily fill in a column that has this value for every card, but with the 見せる part switched out with the vocabulary term of that row.

Hopefully that makes sense haha

As always thanks so much @Neicudi, I think I might use the dictionary tool and add maybe 20 or 30 at a a time still. But it does make sense and an interesting work around to connect directly to the Japanese sounds folder. Thanks again for this mate!
